Tesla Model Y L Owners in China Mount Complaints Over Rear-Suspension Sag

Recently, ChinaEV Home finds a large number of Tesla Model YL owners complaining on social media about rear suspension collapse.

Owners say that after driving for a period, the gap between the rear wheel arch and tire visibly narrows; in severe cases, “two fingers cannot fit inside”.

Model YL launched in China in Aug. 2025. Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory produces it; six-seat pure electric SUV; starts at RMB 339K ($50.4K). Compared with standard Model Y, it uses a longer body, wheelbase, 2+2+2 layout.

Currently, owners report the main issue as rear suspension height drop. As mileage increases, the gap between rear wheel arch and tire narrows; may come with inner tire wear, damper noise, high-speed wheel vibration.

Mileage varies; a Hebei owner’s Model YL collapsed after only about 9K km after a fully loaded trip; another owner found a clear drop after nearly 20K km.

Tesla China has not issued a public explanation. However, multiple owners said that after contacting Tesla’s after-sales service, the service center provided a standard of 784±20 mm; spring replacement allowed only when the measurement is below 764 mm. Some owners have already received free replacement of rear suspension springs.

Replacing springs did not fully ease concerns. Some owners report the gap narrowing again after replacement; others report abnormal tire wear.

This dispute occurs amid continuous scrutiny of the Chinese auto industry’s quality.

GAC Aion, XPeng, Lynk & Co have faced separate quality disputes recently. Chinese market regulators ramps yearlong auto production compliance campaign last week; requires automakers to strengthen quality, reliability, durability checks.

Whether Tesla will issue a recall remains to be seen.
