Chery plans to launch a new all-electric SUV in the UK in early 2027 under its iCAUR brand, according to Reuters. The move will give the Chinese automaker another foothold in Britain’s fast-growing EV market.

The new model will be a five-seat SUV and the first iCAUR vehicle sold in the UK. The brand is already present in 40 countries and regions worldwide.

iCAUR is Chery’s overseas counterpart to the iCAR brand in China, where the lineup mainly consists of boxy, rugged-looking SUVs. iCAR currently offers both all-electric and extended-range models in the Chinese market.

The UK launch will further expand Chery’s brand portfolio in the country. Chery, Omoda, Lepas and Jaecoo models are already sold in the UK, with iCAUR set to become the group’s latest brand there.

Chery has been gaining ground rapidly in the UK.

Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that Chery’s brands collectively accounted for around 7% of the UK market through September this year. That made Chery the UK’s best-selling Chinese automaker and the second-largest automaker overall, behind Volkswagen.

In August, Chery sold 8,618 vehicles in the UK, up 249.61% year over year, making it the country’s top-selling automotive brand for the month. The JAECOO 7, JAECOO 5 and OMODA 5 also ranked among the UK’s 10 best-selling models.

Across Europe, Chery sold 234K vehicles in 24 markets from January to August, up 193% YoY. NEVs accounted for more than 114K units, with sales more than tripling from a year earlier.

As sales accelerate across Europe, Chery is also localizing its intelligent driving technology.

Chery and Bosch recently signed a project agreement in Paris to develop localized advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) solutions for Chery’s European lineup.

The program will equip six new Chery models for Europe, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2028. Cumulative production is expected to exceed 800K systems over five years.
