BYD’s Premium Brand DENZA to Launch in Australia in Q3

According to domestic reports, BYD is planning to launch multiple new models under its premium sub-brand “DENZA” in Australia during the third quarter of this year (July to September) to enrich its product lineup and drive sales expansion.

The first batch of vehicles is expected to begin deliveries in November or December, marking DENZA’s further expansion into right-hand-drive markets.

As a premium new energy vehicle brand jointly established by BYD and Mercedes-Benz (now majority-owned by BYD), DENZA has already introduced several models in markets such as China, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

In the Chinese market, DENZA’s total sales in the first quarter of 2025 reached 32,800 units, with the DENZA D9 accounting for 26,945 units, securing its position as the leader in the mid-to-large MPV segment. The newly launched DENZA N9 has also performed well, with deliveries starting only in March but surpassing 3,000 units in its first month. Recently, the brand celebrated the delivery of its 10,000th N9.

Sajid Hassan, BYD Australia’s product manager, revealed that DENZA will bring multiple premium models to Australian consumers, and the number is “definitely more than two or three.” The specific models to be introduced are still under evaluation, taking into account factors such as local market capacity, dealer network scale, and sales expectations.

Additionally, Hassan emphasized that BYD has already identified several models currently being developed in right-hand-drive versions, which will be well-suited to the Australian market and serve as important additions to the brand’s local lineup. “We plan to hold a DENZA brand launch event in the third quarter, where we will officially announce the upcoming models.”

The DENZA B5 (sold in China as the Equation Leopard BAO 5) and B8 (sold in China as the Equation Leopard BAO 8) are likely to be among the first models introduced.

Recently, a camouflaged test version of the DENZA B5 was spotted in Australia. The vehicle is equipped with a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system, delivering a combined power output of 505 kW and a range of 1,200 km. Meanwhile, the B8 features a 2.0T plug-in hybrid system with 550 kW of power and the same 1,200 km range.
