Recently, rumors claimed BYD plans to equip its Seal model with a solid-state battery boasting an energy density of 400Wh/kg, allegedly capable of traveling 1,500 km after a 12-minute charge. BYD officially refuted these claims, stating the information is “completely untrue” and emphasizing: “Nothing is confirmed yet. The first model and specifications have not been officially announced.”

Notably, as the flagship model of BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the current Seal uses the third-generation Blade Battery with an energy density of approximately 180Wh/kg. Combined with CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, it achieves a CLTC range of 700 km.
Technically, scaling energy density from 180Wh/kg to 400Wh/kg requires breakthroughs across multiple technical hurdles, making immediate vehicle installation unrealistic in the short term.
BYD has long been developing solid-state batteries. At February’s 2nd China All-Solid-State Battery Innovation and Development Summit Forum, Sun Huajun, CTO of BYD Lithium Battery, revealed that the company produced 60Ah all-solid-state battery samples in 2024. Plans include:
2027: Launch pilot batch installations
Post-2030: Achieve mass adoption

Sun Huajun added that “from a long-term development perspective, semi-solid-state battery costs could approach those of liquid batteries once produced at scale.”
