10 Years of Li Auto: Can the i8 Keep It Ahead in China’s NEV Race?

Li Xiang, the founder of Li Auto, stated that the company has always been committed to providing innovative, high-quality electric vehicles for Chinese families.

Today, Li Auto’s official social media account posted a message celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary.

Li Auto was founded in 2015, and in October 2018, the company launched its first model, the Li ONE. The Li ONE, featuring an extended-range plug-in hybrid powertrain, was the first to integrate in-car refrigerators, large-sized passenger entertainment screens, and wide, comfortable seats. These features were rare at the time, when new energy vehicles had not yet become mainstream, and the vehicle was humorously referred to as the “refrigerator, TV, and big sofa” by netizens.

In 2022, the Li L9 was officially launched and became China’s best-selling large SUV for 19 consecutive months. After years of development, Li Auto achieved the milestone of 1 million vehicle deliveries in October 2024. In 2024, Li Auto’s annual sales reached 504,500 units, surpassing brands like AITO and Leapmotor, and earning the title of top-selling new energy vehicle startup in China.

While celebrating its 10th anniversary, Li Auto also released delivery data for June 2025. In June, the company delivered 36,279 new vehicles, with a total of 111,074 vehicles delivered in the second quarter. As of June 30, 2025, Li Auto’s total cumulative deliveries reached 1,337,810 units. Despite fierce competition from domestic and international automakers, Li Auto has maintained steady growth.

In order to consolidate its position and continue development in the increasingly competitive new energy vehicle (NEV) market, Li Auto will release new i-series pure electric SUVs in the second half of this year. The Li i8 will be launched in July, and the Li i6 will follow in September. With this, Li Auto will have three major product lines: the L-series extended-range SUVs, the MEGA high-end all-electric MPV, and the i-series pure electric SUVs, covering the market range from 250,000 RMB to 600,000 RMB.

Li Xiang, founder and CEO of Li Auto, thanked Lei Jun, Chairman of Xiaomi Group, for his well wishes on social media.

Li Xiang posted on social media, stating: “The Li i8, set to be launched at the end of July, can be seen as our 10th-anniversary tribute. We hope that the launch of the Li i8 will allow Li Auto to continue maintaining its position as the leader in the large-space family electric SUV segment.”

While the 10th anniversary is an important milestone, it seems that Li Auto’s ambitions go far beyond this. With the new product layout, we will continue to monitor the future development of Li Auto.
