BYD’s new factory in Brazil officially begins production, with an initial planned annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

On July 1 local time, BYD held the off-line ceremony for its first passenger vehicle produced at its Brazilian industrial complex. The initial models to roll off the line include the Song PLUS and Dolphin Mini, with an initial monthly production capacity of 12,500 units. In the next phase, popular models in the Brazilian market such as the Song PRO and BYD KING (Destroyer 05) will also begin local production.

To respond to Brazil’s previously announced tariff hikes on imported vehicles, BYD announced in July 2023 the construction of a major production hub in Camaçari, Bahia State. The facility, comprising three integrated factories, represents a total investment of 5.5 billion BRL (Brazilian Real, $990 million), making it the largest new energy vehicle (NEV) industrial complex in Latin America.

This Brazilian complex will produce both BEVs and PHEVs, with a planned annual capacity of 150,000 units and is expected to create around 5,000 direct local jobs.

According to BYD’s roadmap, the facility will enter Phase 2 construction by the end of 2026, at which point its annual capacity may double to 300,000 units.

As BYD’s largest overseas single market, Brazil has already seen approximately 130,000 BYD vehicles sold. Among them, the Dolphin Mini has become BYD’s best-selling model in the country and was also the top-selling EV in Brazil during the first months of 2025. In Q1 2025, BYD’s local sales surpassed 20,000 units, making it the top NEV brand in Brazil. In May, BYD rose to fourth place among all automotive retail brands in Brazil, capturing a market share of 9.7%.

Since launching its “Passenger Vehicle Global Expansion” initiative in 2021, BYD has established a presence in over 110 countries and regions. In the first half of 2025 alone, BYD’s overseas sales exceeded 470,000 vehicles, marking a 132% year-on-year increase. BYD is expected to surpass 800,000 overseas sales for the full year of 2025.
