Onvo L90 Successfully Challenges Rainy-Day Truck Sandwich Collision Test
Today, the NIO Onvo L90 successfully completed a truck sandwich collision test under rainy and slippery road conditions.
This truck sandwich collision test simulated a real-world rainy scenario. An 8-ton GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) truck rear-ended the test vehicle at 50 km/h, causing the test vehicle to subsequently collide with a 30-ton GVWR truck in front.
The rear impact buffer zone in three-row passenger vehicles is smaller than that in two-row models. This can make passengers in the third row more vulnerable in rear-end collisions, especially when the vehicle is fully loaded. As many consumers currently prefer three-row models when choosing family vehicles, this type of test is highly significant for potential buyers.

As the subject of this test, the NIO Onvo L90 demonstrated a body structure that remained intact after the collision. All airbags deployed correctly. The A-pillars, B-pillars, and C-pillars showed no structural failure. No cabin intrusion into the third-row occupant space occurred, and all four doors could still be opened normally. Certified by professional technical personnel, the Onvo L90 successfully passed the test.
The Onvo L90 released official interior images on July 2nd and announced that physical vehicles will hit showrooms on July 10th. Pre-sales for the model will launch simultaneously. It is expected to officially go on sale in August with immediate delivery commencement.
The Onvo L90 is a brand-new, large, three-row SUV under the NIO Onvo brand. It features pure electric drive and is built on a 900V ultra-high voltage architecture. Entering one of the most fiercely competitive segments in recent years, rivals like the AITO M8 and Li Auto L8 predominantly use plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. In contrast, the Onvo L90 leverages NIO’s signature battery swap platform and will enter the market competition in the second half of the year.
Currently, the Onvo brand only has the Onvo L60 model on sale. In the first half of this year, Onvo achieved a monthly delivery record of 6,400 units in June. Second-quarter deliveries grew by 15.6% quarter-over-quarter compared to Q1. Cumulative deliveries for the Onvo brand have now surpassed 50,000 units, firmly placing it among the top three in the ¥200,000-¥300,000 pure electric SUV segment.
