Global EV battery usage from Jan-May 2025 reached 401.3 GWh; CATL held 38.1%, BYD 17.4%.

From January to May 2025, six of the top ten global power battery manufacturers by installed capacity are from China.

Recently, South Korean market research firm SNE Research officially released the “Global Electric Vehicle Battery Usage Report for January-May 2025.” The data shows that from January to May 2025, the global electric vehicle battery usage reached 401.3 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 38.5%.

Among the top ten global power battery manufacturers ranked by installed capacity from January to May, six are Chinese companies (consistent with last month’s data), namely CATL (152.7 GWh), BYD (70 GWh), CALB (16.9 GWh), Gotion High-Tech (13.8 GWh), EVE Energy (10.8 GWh), and SVOLT Energy (10.5 GWh).

This month, CALB’s cumulative installed capacity surpassed SK on, successfully moving up to fourth place in the rankings.

CATL maintains its global leading position with an installed capacity of 152.7 GWh, achieving a year-on-year growth of 40.6%. BYD ranks second with a growth rate of 57.1% (70 GWh). SNE Research predicts that BYD’s electric vehicle sales will reach approximately 5.5 million units by 2025, continuing its growth momentum and expanding its global market share.
