SAIC-GM Buick recently released a teaser for the all-new GL8 Avenir, announcing that the new model will be unveiled soon.

Based on the teaser poster and prior data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the all-new Buick GL8 Avenir will be equipped for the first time with a 34.8kWh NCM battery based on the Ultium platform. It offers a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 202 km and supports ultra-fast charging at up to 5C. The upgraded “The Dragon Plug-in Hybrid Pro” powertrain is also expected to boost overall performance, delivering a combined range of up to 1,450 km.

Positioned as a mid-to-large-size MPV, the GL8 Avenir PHEV was first introduced in April 2024 and is the first Buick model to adopt SAIC-GM’s “The Dragon” plug-in hybrid system. Within the GL8 lineup, the Avenir variant ranks higher than the GL8 Lu Shang Edition. Competitors in the same segment and price range include the Denza D9 DM-i and the Voyah Dreamer PHEV. For reference, the current GL8 Avenir PHEV is priced between 359,900 RMB ($50,386) and 419,900 RMB ($58,786), and the upcoming model is expected to maintain this price range.
