Under the agreement signed by both parties, GAC will introduce two of its global strategic models—the AION V and AION UT—into the UK market, with official launch and deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
On July 15, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC) officially announced a joint venture with leading international auto retailer Jameel Motors in London, marking a strategic push into the UK’s fast-growing new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

Under the partnership, two of GAC’s global strategic models—the AION V and AION UT—will be the first to enter the UK market, with deliveries expected to begin in Q1 2026. The move signals a new chapter in GAC’s European expansion strategy.
Senior executives from both sides attended the signing ceremony, including Wei Haigang, General Manager of GAC International; Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Jameel Motors; and Chen Ping, CEO of Jameel China.
This marks the second collaboration between GAC and Jameel Motors this year. In April, the two companies established an agency relationship in Poland. Transitioning from a distribution model to a joint venture reflects GAC’s shift from testing the waters in Europe to laying down long-term roots.

The choice of the UK as the next landing point is strategic. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in the UK surged 25.8% year-on-year in May. EVs now account for over one-fifth of new car sales in the country—a market that is growing rapidly but still has room for new entrants.

Jameel Motors emphasized that introducing GAC’s NEV lineup to the UK is a key part of its sustainability agenda. CEO Jasmmine Wong noted that the partnership goes beyond business collaboration, reflecting a shared vision for technological innovation and clean mobility.

GAC stated that through its deepening collaboration with Jameel, it aims to bring high-quality NEV products to more European markets while accelerating the localized implementation of its “ONE GAC 2.0” global strategy.
However, GAC’s launch in the UK starts from scratch in terms of brand recognition and sales network—unlike its well-established presence in China. Several Chinese automakers are already vying for a foothold in the UK: BYD has built considerable scale, XPeng’s G6 model is now available locally, and NIO’s sub-brand Firefly is expected to debut by the end of the year.
While the joint venture model facilitates faster local channel development, competing in Europe’s crowded EV landscape will require more than just distribution. How GAC can carve out a distinct competitive edge remains a pressing challenge for its international ambitions.
