BYD Yuan UP Launches in Malaysia, Starting at $23,716

As of the end of July, BYD has established over 40 outlets in Malaysia (including 16 3S centers), with plans to expand service locations to over 30 by year-end.

On July 24, BYD officially launched its new all-electric SUV, the Yuan UP—branded as “Atto 2” in the Malaysian market—at a price range of 100,000 to 120,000 ringgit (approximately RMB 168,900–203,000 / $23,646–$28,420). This marks BYD’s third strategic model in Malaysia following the Atto 3 and Dolphin.

The Yuan UP is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and positioned as a B-segment electric SUV. It measures 4310×1830×1675 mm, with a wheelbase of 2620 mm—size-wise, it falls between the Dolphin and Atto 3.

Tailored to the Southeast Asian market, the Malaysian-spec Yuan UP is equipped with a 45.12 kWh Blade Battery, offering a WLTP range of 312 km. It supports 65 kW fast charging (10% to 80% in just 37 minutes) and comes standard with a 12.8-inch rotating central control screen, electric seats, and L2-level advanced driver assistance features.

To support the launch of the new model, BYD is accelerating its channel expansion in partnership with distributor Sime Darby Motors. As of the end of July, BYD has established over 40 outlets in Malaysia—including 16 3S (sales, service, and spare parts) centers—covering major cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Malacca. The company plans to expand service locations to over 30 by the end of the year. This rollout pace has far exceeded expectations: the original target for the end of 2024 was 30 showrooms, and the current network has grown by more than 50% in just eight months.

From the launch of the Atto 3 (in 2022) to the Dolphin (in 2024), and now the Yuan UP, BYD has introduced a new vehicle each year to broaden its market coverage. Leveraging its right-hand-drive production bases in Thailand and Malaysia, BYD has captured over 30% market share in Southeast Asia’s plug-in hybrid segment. The Yuan UP is expected to be further introduced to markets such as Indonesia and Australia in the near future.
