Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Spotted at Ferrari Factory, Sparking Speculation of a Future Collaboration

Ferrari has delayed the release of its second fully electric model to at least 2028 and plans to unveil its first EV in spring 2026.

Recently, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was “spotted” at Ferrari’s Maranello factory in Italy, causing a stir in the industry.

The tip-off came from blogger @西米露在博洛尼亚, who shared on social media that not only was the SU7 Ultra seen at the Ferrari factory, but it was also driven out of the factory grounds. According to the blogger, the car was “officially purchased” by Ferrari for testing and developing its next-generation electric platform. Previously, only Porsche Taycan test cars had appeared at the Ferrari factory.

This claim was later corroborated by another car blogger @劈你落山, who confirmed that he had spotted a disguised test car at the factory entrance. After talking with some long-time factory insiders and analyzing the vehicle’s markings, he identified the car as an electric platform test vehicle with fake exhaust pipes. He also revealed that the factory insiders mentioned Ferrari plans to officially announce its first fully electric vehicle by the end of this year.

A month ago, at Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” launch event, Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun announced that the SU7 Ultra prototype set a lap time of 6:22.091 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, ranking third among global prototype car lap times. The production model also made it into the 19th place with a lap time of 7:04.957. These impressive performance figures indicate that the SU7 Ultra holds potential to attract the attention of high-performance manufacturers.

Upon hearing the news, the industry was quick to speculate about a potential collaboration between Xiaomi and Ferrari. Although it seems more likely that the two companies are engaged in a “testing partnership” at this stage, given the current transformation anxiety in the luxury performance car market, there’s a possibility that they might engage in deeper technical exchanges in the future.

In light of the uncertainty in the global high-performance electric vehicle market and the wait-and-see attitude from consumers, Ferrari may be reassessing its path to electrification. According to Reuters, due to the slowing growth of the luxury EV market, Ferrari has postponed the release of its second fully electric model to after 2028 and plans to launch its first EV in the spring of 2026.

For Ferrari, this might be a subtle yet practical exploration of its electrification strategy, while for Xiaomi, it marks the growing industry recognition of its high-performance positioning.
