ONVO L90 Launches 60kWh BaaS Plan, Monthly Rent Cut by 33.7%

Responding to user feedback, ONVO launches a limited-time 60kWh battery rental plan for the L90, allowing flexible switching between 85kWh and 60kWh.

On August 11, ONVO officially announced the “ONVO L90 Limited-Time 60kWh Battery Rental Plan.”

This plan is currently available only for customers purchasing the L90 under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. The monthly rental is set at RMB 599 ($83.86), nearly RMB 300 ($42) less than the 85kWh battery rental fee.

The specific plan details are as follows:

  • For customers who have locked in an order but have not yet taken delivery: they can contact their sales consultant to switch from the 85kWh battery to the 60kWh version, with the monthly rental adjusted to RMB 599 ($83.86). After delivery, they can flexibly upgrade to 85kWh either daily (RMB 45/day, $6.30/day), monthly (RMB 800/month, $112/month), or annually (RMB 8,800/year, $1,232/year) while keeping the base monthly rental at RMB 599 ($83.86). They can also choose to permanently upgrade to 85kWh, in which case the monthly rental reverts to RMB 899 ($125.86). For upgrades within one year, the service fee is just RMB 1 ($0.14), with the price difference covered by ONVO.
  • For new customers placing orders: after locking in the order, they must proactively contact their sales consultant to modify the configuration. Only the BaaS model is supported, with a monthly rental of RMB 599 ($83.86), and the same upgrade options are available later.
  • For customers who have already taken delivery: ONVO offers two downgrade paths. One is via battery sharing—returning the 85kWh battery to a swap station in exchange for reward points. The other is permanently downgrading to the 60kWh battery, adjusting the rent to RMB 599 ($83.86). For downgrades within three months of delivery, the service fee is RMB 1 ($0.14); afterward, the standard fee applies.

Since the launch of the ONVO L90, many customers have expressed interest in smaller-capacity battery packs through offline test drives and online livestream interactions.

On August 9, during an official Q&A with users, ONVO confirmed that the L90 would come standard with the 85kWh battery across all trims and would not offer a 60kWh purchase version. However, they also disclosed that, in response to strong demand for renting 60kWh batteries, the company had initiated internal technical verification and business plan discussions.

Today’s decision comes just two days after the August 9 announcement of “considering rental feasibility,” once again demonstrating ONVO’s rapid responsiveness to user needs.

Since its July 31 debut, the ONVO L90 has attracted significant attention for its performance and battery offerings. Data shows that within just three days of launch, 1,976 units were delivered, ranking it in the top three of the weekly large SUV sales chart, just behind the AITO M8 and M9.

With the release of the 60kWh version, the ONVO L90 can better focus on the needs of urban commuting users. Leveraging NIO’s “chargeable, swappable, and upgradeable” battery swap network—currently comprising 3,400 stations nationwide—ONVO provides strong technical support for flexible battery solutions.
