Huawei-Backed HIMA Rolls Out OTA Update, Upgrades ADS 4 Capabilities

The OTA’s intelligent driving upgrades focus on ADS 4, including new WEWA architecture, Parking-to-Parking 2.0, “Parking Butler” service, and the debut of driver incapacitation assistance.

On September 24, one day after the Huawei-backed Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) concluded its Autumn Product Launch, the company announced the official rollout of China’s National Day OTA update.

The update introduces three major capability upgrades and over 30 experience optimizations, reaching more than 930,000 users. Officials described it as a “comprehensive refresh.”

In intelligent driving, the OTA’s main highlight is ADS 4. Vehicles equipped with Huawei’s ADS system are being upgraded to the new WEWA architecture, which applies to all HUAWEI ADS-enabled models.

The updated “Parking-to-Parking 2.0” feature supports one-click activation of parking-level navigation and delivers end-to-end assisted driving from one parking space to another.

For advanced ADS users, a new dedicated “Parking Butler” has been added, enabling full-map coverage from main roads directly into parking spaces, with support for autonomous parking after the driver leaves the vehicle.

The update also introduces driver incapacitation assistance for the first time. If the system detects that the driver has lost control due to fatigue or sudden health issues, the vehicle can automatically decelerate, pull over, and activate hazard warning lights to request assistance.

In terms of in-car interaction, the “Realistic Xiaoyi” voice assistant is now available, offering a more natural, human-like tone. The smart cockpit system has also been enhanced with National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival wallpapers across all models, as well as city window light signals on selected models.

Functionality and optimization upgrades include:

  • Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) with intelligent speed adjustment for accident-prone or slippery road segments
  • Parking memory that records vehicle posture at favorite parking spots
  • Automatic activation of sentry mode after users leave the vehicle
  • Low-speed anti-collision protection
  • eAES activation and obstacle avoidance in unstructured road scenarios

Upgrades also extend to entertainment and privacy features. The rear-seat control panel now supports a child lock, smartwatches can trigger nap wake-up reminders, and new voice-based puzzle games such as idiom chains are available.

A “Super Privacy Mode” allows users to disable microphones, cameras, and remote location access with one tap.

Energy management and driving assistance functions have been further optimized, including AR-HUD enhancements (such as intelligent driving guidance lines in parking scenarios and improved rendering for traffic-light maps), support for maintaining power supply in temporary parking, and battery maintenance under forced generation mode.

On the same day, Huawei Executive Director Richard Yu announced that the AITO M9 will receive an external voice control feature for parking, which, when combined with ADS 4’s Parking-to-Parking navigation assist, enables voice-guided parking from outside the vehicle.

Earlier, on August 22, Jin Yuzhi, CEO of Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, disclosed that 28 models equipped with Huawei’s ADS 4 system have been launched to date.

These include models from HIMA’s “Five Series” brands—Shangjie, Luxeed, AITO, Stelato, and Maextro—as well as Avatr, Deepal, Voyah, M-Hero, GAC, Fang Cheng Bao, and Audi.

As of September 20, cumulative installations of Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving system surpassed 1 million units, with assisted driving mileage exceeding 5 billion km, including 4.65 billion km in cumulative driver assistance mileage.
