Li Auto Design Chief: Ferrari’s EV Design Closely Resembles Li i-Series

Ferrari’s first all-electric model, the Elettrica, is scheduled for release in Spring 2026.

On November 12, Ben Baum, Design Director of Li Auto, stated in a media interview that the exterior design of Ferrari’s first all-electric model, the “Elettrica,” is very similar to that of the Li i-Series.

Ben Baum added that Ferrari also believes an electric vehicle must adopt this form. He expressed his delight upon seeing the spy photos, as it indicates that this design direction is increasingly taking shape.

Public information shows that Ben Baum previously served as the Lead Exterior Designer for the Porsche 911 (992). After joining Li Auto in 2020, he led the design of the L-Series, MEGA, and i-Series. He has emphasized that classic car models should possess the characteristic of being recognizable through a “silhouette defined by just three strokes,” a philosophy applied to the Li MEGA and i-Series.

According to the latest spy photos, the Ferrari Elettrica test vehicle remains heavily camouflaged.

The new vehicle features a groundbreaking five-door fastback structure. Judging from the basic silhouette and lines, its streamlined fastback design shares similarities with the “bullet train” design concept of the Li i8.

Recalling the camouflaged Li all-electric vehicle that Ben Baum previously posted on Instagram, which featured a flat fastback posture and a crossover styling, it creates an interesting parallel with the Ferrari Elettrica’s positioning as a “practical GT.”

The similarities between the two vehicles are reflected in: both abandoning aggressive supercar lines in favor of spacious silhouettes that prioritize daily practicality; front fascias tending towards simple, closed-off styling, with airflow optimization taking priority.

It is reported that Ferrari’s first all-electric model, the Elettrica, is scheduled for release in the spring of 2026. Whether the production model will align with Ben Baum’s observations remains to be seen, and we will continue to follow the developments.
