Li Auto Holds 14 Personnel Accountable Over 2 Batch Quality Incidents

Following an internal review, Li Auto has released a statement detailing the causes of the incidents and the corresponding actions taken.

According to Chinese media reports on November 14, Li Auto issued two internal accountability announcements regarding the “batch quality incident involving coolant leakage in some 2024 MEGA vehicles” and the “batch quality incident involving abnormal noise from the lower control arm bushing in some 2025 L-series vehicles.”

On the evening of October 23, a 2024 MEGA model caught fire while driving. Li Auto promptly initiated an internal investigation, reviewing records from the cloud-based early warning system and data from specialized validation tests.

The investigation revealed that in the same batch of 2024 Li Auto MEGA vehicles as the incident vehicle, the coolant exhibited insufficient anti-corrosion performance. Under specific conditions, this could lead to corrosion and leakage in the cooling aluminum plates of the power battery and front motor controller cooling circuits. This resulted in warning lights illuminating, limited power, and inability to start the vehicle. In extreme cases, it could cause thermal runaway of the power battery, posing a safety risk.

Following the incident, Li Auto proactively recalled 11,411 vehicles.

Today, Li Auto implemented further internal disciplinary actions regarding this incident, identifying three primary contributing causes for the coolant leakage batch quality incident:

1. Insufficient validation of the coolant. Personnel from R&D Operations – Materials Technology bore primary responsibility. Consequently, five employees involved in this process, including Li, were held accountable.
2. Insufficient test validation and leakage risk assessment for the power battery. Personnel from Vehicle Electrification – Power Battery bore primary responsibility. Consequently, four employees involved in this process, including Shang, were held accountable.
3. Personnel from R&D Operations – R&D Quality, Quality & Safety, Service, and other departments demonstrated inadequate response regarding coolant leakage risk assessment and handling of affected customer vehicles, bearing secondary responsibility. Consequently, five employees involved in these processes, including Zhou, were held accountable.

Separately from the coolant leakage incident in some 2024 MEGA vehicles, numerous Li Auto owners had previously reported abnormal noise issues from the front wheels of their new vehicles, primarily concentrated in the 2025 Li Auto L6, L7, L8, and L9 Smart Refreshed models.

Li Auto stated that after thorough investigation and analysis, the cause has been identified:

1. The cause of the phenomenon is: The 2025 Li Auto L-series Smart Refreshed models used a new type of grease for the hydraulic bushing. Variations in the viscosity of this grease under high-temperature conditions could cause occasional noise. This issue was resolved by the end of July.
2. Through rigorous testing and validation, it was confirmed that this issue only causes occasional noise and has no impact on vehicle performance, driving safety, or durability. The vehicles are safe to drive normally.

Concurrently, Li Auto initiated a special service campaign: Owners experiencing the aforementioned noise issue can schedule an appointment to have their vehicles serviced at an authorized center. Additionally, for all 2025 Li Auto L-series Smart Refreshed vehicles delivered on or before July 31, 2025 (inclusive), the company will provide an extended warranty for the front suspension of 3 years or 60,000 kilometers, increasing the total front suspension system warranty coverage to 8 years or 160,000 kilometers.

Regarding this matter, Li Auto also issued an accountability announcement today targeting relevant department employees responsible for the abnormal noise quality incident related to the lower control arm bushing in some 2025 L-series model vehicles.
