The global solid-state battery market is projected to reach 200-300 billion RMB by 2030.
Recently, China FAW Group has officially revealed its mass production plan for solid-state batteries.
Jiang Wenhu, Vice President of the Hongqi Brand Operation Committee at China FAW, disclosed that the company is collaborating with 27 organizations on the research and development of solid-state battery technology. They have currently completed the trial production of a 66Ah battery cell and plan to officially integrate it into Hongqi’s high-end flagship sedan and SUV models by the end of 2027, with simultaneous mass production.

According to a report shared by Soochow Securities in July, regarding the technical pathway, China FAW has adopted a combination of a high-nickel ternary cathode, a silicon-carbon anode, and a sulfide electrolyte. The target energy density is set at 375 Wh/kg.
The choice of the sulfide route is highly consistent with the current mainstream technological path in China—leading companies such as CATL, Gotion High-tech, and CALB are all focusing on sulfide electrolytes, balancing ionic conductivity with mass production feasibility.
Currently, China’s solid-state battery industry is in the “early introductory phase.” Most companies are in the stages of sample submission, small-scale testing (pilot testing), and pilot line construction. Industrialization has noticeably accelerated since 2025.

Judging from the timelines announced by major manufacturers, the period from 2026 to 2027 is expected to see a concentrated surge in small-batch vehicle integration:
- BYD: Achieved the pilot production line rollout of a 60Ah all-solid-state battery cell in 2024, with an energy density reaching 400 Wh/kg. It plans to enter a demonstration period between 2027 and 2029, with integration into thousands of mid-to-high-end vehicle models.
- GAC Aion: Aims to achieve all-solid-state battery integration in vehicles by 2026.
- CATL: Plans small-batch mass production of all-solid-state batteries in 2027.
- Changan Automobile: Targets completion of prototype development in 2025 and initiation of scaled mass production in 2027.
- SAIC Motor: Aims to produce samples by the end of 2025 and achieve mass production and delivery in 2027.
Some institutions predict that by 2030, the global solid-state battery market size is expected to reach 200 to 300 billion RMB.
