Tesla China reported December wholesale sales of 97,171 vehicles, up 3.6% YoY and 12% MOM, lifting the brand to fourth place among NEV makers amid a volatile year-end market.
On January 5, the China Passenger Car Association released its ranking of new energy passenger vehicle wholesale sales by automaker for December 2025.
As the year-end exemption for new energy vehicle purchase tax expired, China’s auto market entered a rush-buying phase in December.
However, adjustments to vehicle trade-in subsidy policies led to increasingly divergent market performance.
Data show that nationwide wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles totaled 1.57 million units in December, up 4% year on year but down 8% month on month.
For the full year 2025, cumulative wholesale sales reached 15.33 million units, representing a 25% increase from a year earlier.

The company moved up to fourth place from sixth in the previous month, trailing only Changan, Geely, and BYD.
BYD remained firmly in first place with wholesale sales of 414,784 units, followed by Geely with 154,264 units. Changan Automobile ranked third with 101,417 units, rising from fifth place in November.
Tesla’s December rebound in China’s wholesale volumes was closely linked to adjustments in its delivery rhythm.
Information on Tesla China’s official website shows that estimated delivery times for several models have shortened significantly in recent weeks.
Specifically, delivery times for all Model 3 variants have been reduced to an estimated 2–4 weeks.
Changes were more pronounced for the Model Y. Estimated delivery times for the long-range rear-wheel-drive and long-range all-wheel-drive versions have been shortened to 4–6 weeks, a reduction of 4–7 weeks compared with late November.
The Model Y standard version now shows an estimated delivery time of 1–3 weeks, down by as much as 10 weeks from previous peaks.
The estimated delivery window for the Model Y L has also been adjusted to 2–4 weeks, shortened by roughly 6–9 weeks.
This suggests improved capacity utilization, optimized inventory structure, or a more stable order flow for Tesla in December.
Tesla disclosed on January 2 that its global vehicle deliveries in 2025 totaled 1.636 million units, down about 8.6% year on year, marking the second consecutive annual decline.
