- China reached 23.683 million EV charging points by end-July, up 41.9% year‑on‑year.
- Private chargers dominate growth, accounting for 82.6% of total and 85.6% of July installations.
- NEV sales surge lifts demand, with July NEVs at 60.4% market share and 9.007 million YTD.
On Aug. 24, the National Energy Administration released data on China’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure for the first half of 2026.
According to data from the national charging infrastructure monitoring and service platform, the total number of EV charging points in China reached 23.683 million by the end of July, up 41.9% year on year.
In terms of new installations, China added 626,000 charging points in July alone, an 11.8% increase from June.

As the number of NEVs on the road continues to rise, China’s charging network remains in a rapid expansion phase, with an increasing share of new installations concentrated in private-use scenarios.
Private charging points accounted for 536,000 of the new installations in July, or 85.6% of the total.
Public charging infrastructure additions stood at 90,000 during the same period.
By the end of July, the number of private charging points nationwide had reached 18.584 million, up 48.8% YoY and accounting for 82.6% of the country’s total charging infrastructure.
By comparison, public charging infrastructure totaled 5.099 million points, up 21.3% YoY.
In terms of charging capacity, the rated combined power of public charging infrastructure reached 255 million kW by the end of July, with average power per charging point at about 49.97 kW.

The connected electricity capacity of private charging infrastructure stood at about 160 million kVA.
Beyond the expansion in the number of charging points, charging power and energy replenishment efficiency are becoming increasingly important areas of competition for automakers and charging operators.
Automakers are also stepping up investment in charging infrastructure.
As of Aug. 24, NIO had built 9,241 battery-swap and charging stations nationwide, including 5,206 charging stations and 30,002 charging piles.

BYD is also continuing to expand its flash-charging network, with more than 7,000 stations now in operation.
The company plans to increase the number of its fast-charging stations to 20,000 by the end of 2026.
The rapid expansion of charging infrastructure is being driven by the continued growth of China’s new energy vehicle market.
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, domestic NEV sales reached 1.561 million units in July.
This accunts for 60.4% of total new vehicle sales, pushing the monthly NEV market share above 60% for the first time.
From January through July, cumulative NEV sales reached 9.007 million units, with NEVs accounting for about 51.2% of total vehicle sales, taking their cumulative market share over half for the first time.
