Alexandre Baldy, BYD’s senior vice president, said the company plans to become Brazil’s best-selling automotive brand by 2030.

Brazil is the largest automotive market in Latin America and an important source of growth for BYD’s overseas business.

Over the past two years, BYD has gradually expanded its presence in the country by broadening its model lineup, growing its sales network and advancing local production.

The BYD industrial complex in Camaçari, in the northeastern state of Bahia, has become a key base for the company’s expansion in Brazil.

The plant currently operates mainly under a semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly model, with components imported from China and assembled into complete vehicles locally.

BYD said the facility has assembled more than 150,000 vehicles to date and created approximately 9,500 jobs.

Construction is also progressing beyond vehicle assembly toward a more comprehensive manufacturing operation.

The welding and paint shops have entered advanced operational testing, while work on the stamping plant is also advancing.

Once these facilities are completed, BYD will have local production capabilities spanning stamping, welding, painting and final assembly, reducing its reliance on imported complete vehicles and components.

Growth in Brazil is part of BYD’s broader overseas sales expansion.
