Xiaomi YU7 SUV Launch: What to Expect on May 22

This morning, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, announced via Weibo that Xiaomi’s strategic new product launch event, themed ‘New Starting Point,’ is officially scheduled for 7:00 PM on May 22. The company’s first SUV model, the YU7, will make its official debut at the event.

Lei Jun revealed that several important products will be introduced at the launch, including the YU7, the smartphone SoC chip Xiaomi XRING O1, Xiaomi 15SPro, and Xiaomi Tablet 7 Ultra.

The Xiaomi YU7 had earlier appeared on the MIIT website, offering single-motor and dual-motor versions. According to previous reports, the YU7 will come in two battery capacity variants, 96.3 kWh and 101.7 kWh, with a maximum range of 820 kilometers.

MIIT information shows that the Xiaomi YU7 has dimensions of 4999/1996/1608 (1600) mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm, classifying it as a mid-to large-sized SUV.

In terms of powertrain, the Xiaomi YU7 is electric – powered, offering single – and dual – motor options. The dual – motor all – wheel – drive model has front and rear motors with maximum powers of 220kW and 288kW respectively, a combined power of 508kW (691 hp), and a top speed of 253km/h, equipped with a ternary lithium – ion battery. The single – motor rear – wheel – drive model has a maximum power of 235kW, a top speed of 240km/h, and uses a lithium iron phosphate battery.

The year 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of Xiaomi Group’s founding. On the evening of May 15, Lei Jun said in an internal speech: “Public expectations and demands for Xiaomi far exceed imagination. At 15, Xiaomi is no longer a newcomer in the industry; we no longer have a novice protection period in any sector.”

Regarding the recent SU7 accident, Lei Jun responded that “a sudden traffic accident shattered everything, and we faced severe questioning, criticism, and blame. However, no one anticipated the significant impact of this accident and the substantial blow it dealt to Xiaomi.” He stated that Xiaomi aims to become the safest vehicle in its class in the automotive safety sector.
