Lei Jun Addresses Concerns Over Inflated YU7 Pre-Order Figures and Related Concerns in Live Broadcast

Orders converted from the Xiaomi SU7 and SU7 Ultra to the new YU7 account for less than 15% of the total YU7 orders.

On the evening of July 2, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun revealed key details about the launch of the Xiaomi YU7 and addressed hot topics such as order data, user profile, testing standards, and the company’s latest plans in technology development and customer service during a live broadcast.

Regarding the YU7’s pre-sale numbers—over 200,000 pre-orders in the first three minutes and 240,000 locked orders within 18 hours—Lei emphasized that the “7-day refundable deposit” is an industry-standard practice. He also clarified rumors about order conversions: “The number of customers switching from the Xiaomi SU7 and SU7 Ultra to the YU7 accounts for less than 15% of total YU7 orders,” refuting much of the market speculation. He added that due to unexpectedly high pre-sale demand, Xiaomi will no longer release 24-hour locked order numbers to avoid misinterpretation.

Pre-order for Xiaomi YU7
Xiaomi YU7 secured over 200,000 pre-orders in the first three minutes since its debut.

User profile analysis revealed that YU7 buyers have an average age of 33, and women account for 30% of buyers (up 4.5% compared to the SU7). The most popular color options among female buyers are Golden Pink and Danxia Purple. Apple users make up 52.4% of YU7 buyers (up 4.4% compared to SU7). The top three cities for YU7 orders are Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing. Lei also noted that the Xiaomi SU7 saw an increase in locked orders during the YU7 promotional period, with total deliveries nearing 300,000 units.

Addressing concerns about rival companies’ customer interception scripts, Lei called for healthy competition: “Some of the claims are inaccurate. Companies should focus on their own strengths.” He also recommended alternative models for customers seeking immediate delivery, such as the XPeng G7, Li Auto L8, and Tesla Model Y. He shared that Xiaomi Auto stores now cover 92 cities across China, with 18 new locations opening in July.

On the technical front, Lei revealed that 653 YU7 test vehicles were deployed, accumulating 6.49 million kilometers of road testing. He cited his own 1,300 km road test from Beijing to Shanghai as proof of the vehicle’s range and reliability.

Discussing Xiaomi’s Nürburgring ambitions, Lei emphasized that this is a comprehensive test of their technical capability and part of Xiaomi’s goal to benchmark against Porsche, using the track to refine technologies before applying them to mass production vehicles.

Xiaomi has now established a “base” at the Nürburgring, leasing a 2,781-square-meter workshop and R&D space, scheduled to open in early 2026.

During the livestream, Lei openly addressed market concerns, using data and facts to clarify misunderstandings, while showcasing Xiaomi’s strategic plans in both technology development and customer service.
