All 8 BYD Car Carriers in Service, Capacity 1M+ Vehicles/Year

With an annual capacity over 1 million vehicles, these 8 carriers will serve key markets like Europe and Southeast Asia.

On September 28, BYD Auto announced that its eighth car carrier, the Jinan, officially entered service. This marks the full deployment of BYD’s first batch of eight car carriers.

These vessels feature a unified livery and are named after cities hosting BYD’s major domestic production bases. The fleet pioneer, Explorer No. 1, has a capacity of 4,000 car equivalent units (CEUs). Subsequent deliveries—the Changzhou, Hefei, and Zhengzhou—increased capacity to 7,000 CEUs. The Shenzhen, Xi’an, Changsha, and the latest Jinan further expanded this to 9,200 CEUs, making them the world’s largest LNG dual-fuel car carriers.

It is reported that these eight carriers will provide an annual transport capacity exceeding one million vehicles, serving core markets including Europe and Southeast Asia.

Notably, BYD’s car carriers are not only large in scale but also pioneers in green shipping. Taking the Shenzhen as an example, it utilizes the latest LNG dual-fuel clean power technology and is equipped with environmentally friendly features such as high-efficiency energy-saving main engines, a shaft-mounted generator, and a high-voltage shore power system.

Data shows that in the first quarter of 2025, BYD’s ro-ro vessels had already shipped over 25,000 new energy vehicles worldwide. With enhanced transport capacity, BYD has achieved further breakthroughs in the global market.

In the first half of 2025, the BYD Group cumulatively sold over 2.14 million passenger cars and pickups. Overseas sales accounted for more than 470,000 units, representing approximately 22% of the total sales.
