Takeaways
  • China NEV average transaction price fell to RMB159,500 ($23,570) in June, down 0.5% month-on-month.
  • NEV SUV prices plunged fastest, dropping about RMB4,902 while discounts for SUVs also narrowed.
  • NEV MPVs bucked the trend with prices up 3.3% to RMB305,800 as higher-end models gain traction.

On July 28, the CPCA, together with CAM Automotive Consulting, released a report tracking passenger vehicle market prices and discount trends nationwide for June 2026.

Data showed that the average transaction price of China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market stood at RMB 159,500 ($23,570) in June, down RMB 797 from May, representing a month-on-month decline of 0.5%.

At the same time, overall discounts for NEVs narrowed.

The average incentive level in the NEV market was RMB 10,600 ($1,566) in June, down RMB 725 from the previous month, a month-on-month decrease of 6.42%.

Across the broader passenger vehicle market, pricing pressure remained elevated.

The average transaction price of passenger vehicles nationwide fell to RMB 154,000 ($22,760) in June, down RMB 1,120 from the previous month, or 0.72% month on month.

Meanwhile, average discounts across the overall market increased by RMB 1,076 to RMB 25,500 ($3,770).

Looking at different NEV segments, transaction prices for electric sedans and SUVs declined by 0.2% and 2.7% respectively in June, reaching RMB 120,800 ($17,850) and RMB 178,100 ($26,300).

In contrast, NEV MPVs moved against the broader trend, with average transaction prices rising to RMB 305,800 ($45,190), up 3.3% month on month.

The decline in NEV SUV prices was the most notable change in June’s market pricing trends.

The report showed that average transaction prices in the NEV SUV segment fell by approximately RMB 4,902, with only B-segment models posting a contrary price increase.

By comparison, the NEV MPV segment followed a different trajectory.

Average transaction prices within the RMB 200,000–400,000 ($29,600–59,120) price range remain the segment’s main sales driver.

Rising sales of models including the Denza D9 and Luxeed V9 drove up average transaction prices across this vehicle segment.

In terms of discount changes, NEV manufacturers are generally reducing the scale of price incentives. Average discounts for NEV sedans, SUVs and MPVs declined by 5.9%, 8.5% and 6.2%, respectively, in June.

Among them, NEV SUVs saw both lower transaction prices and reduced discounts, suggesting some automakers are adjusting their promotional strategies rather than continuing aggressive price cuts.

As NEV penetration continues to rise and product offerings expand across different price segments, the strategy of relying solely on price reductions to drive sales is facing increasing challenges.

China’s NEV sales reached 1.643 million units in June, accounting for 58.5% of total new vehicle sales.

While the market continues to expand, pricing trends across different segments have begun to diverge more clearly.
