On August 3, WeRide announced a strategic partnership with Danish mobility platform GreenMobility to jointly develop Denmark’s first commercial autonomous ride-hailing project.
The agreement marks the first entry of a Chinese Robotaxi company into the Nordic market, making WeRide the first Chinese autonomous driving firm to establish a Robotaxi business in Northern Europe.
Subject to regulatory approval from Danish authorities, the service is expected to open to the public in the first half of 2027.
WeRide’s latest-generation GXR Level 4 Robotaxi, designed to comply with European Union regulations, will be deployed to provide autonomous ride-hailing services for local users.
The announcement comes just over two months after WeRide unveiled plans in June to launch commercial Robotaxi services in Madrid, Spain, and Zurich, Switzerland.
Denmark becomes the sixth European country in which the company has established operations.
The partnership follows WeRide’s asset-light expansion strategy. The company will provide its Level 4 autonomous driving technology, vehicle platform and autonomous driving system.
GreenMobility will contribute its existing mobility network, operational expertise and local customer base to support deployment and commercialization.
Under the agreement, the two companies will work closely with the Danish Road Directorate, the Danish Road Traffic Authority and other relevant government agencies.
They will conduct vehicle testing, validation and commercial deployment in accordance with Danish and European Union regulations over the coming months.
The collaboration further expands WeRide’s global partner ecosystem.
The company has already established partnerships with international mobility platforms including Uber and Grab, as well as regional operators such as AVOMO, SBB, ioki, K2, Tawasul, AIDriver, Bayanat and GreenMobility.
WeRide has developed a “platform + local operator” business model across multiple international markets, accelerating the commercial deployment of Robotaxi services in different countries and cities.
The company is also the only autonomous driving firm globally to hold self-driving permits across eight countries
These include China, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, France, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and Switzerland.
To date, WeRide’s autonomous driving business spans 13 countries and more than 40 cities worldwide, with a fleet of over 3,000 Level 4 autonomous vehicles.
