NIO Energy, Wuhan SOE Partner Complete Handover of 36 Charging and Swap Stations

NIO Energy and Optics Valley Transportation Group completed the handed over of their first batch of jointly built charging and battery swap stations in Wuhan on Aug. 12.

The two sides officially handed over 36 charging and battery swap stations built under their partnership. The project marks a major rollout of NIO Energy’s “state-owned partner-owned assets + NIO-operated services” model in Hubei province.

Under the partnership, Optics Valley Transportation Group owns the battery swap station assets, while NIO Energy provides technical support, operational management and user services.

The two companies plan to further expand charging and battery swap infrastructure across Hubei and other regions in China, accelerating the deployment of new energy mobility networks.

Earlier, NIO Energy also partnered with Zhongan Energy to expand battery swap infrastructure. On June 25, NIO Energy and Zhongan Energy signed an agreement to jointly build 500 battery swap stations nationwide. The deal followed their first cooperation phase, which involved the signing and delivery of 50 swap stations in December 2025.

Both projects are based on NIO Energy’s “Power-Up Partner” model. Under the model, local state-owned platforms, industrial capital firms or financial institutions invest in and own infrastructure assets such as battery swap stations. NIO Energy provides its battery swap technology, operational system and user service capabilities.

Compared with traditional swap network expansion led entirely by automakers, the model reduces capital pressure on a single company while accelerating large-scale infrastructure deployment.

Since launching the “Power-Up Partner” program in August 2024, NIO Energy has partnered with more than 40 local state-owned platforms, financial institutions and other partners across 25 provinces and regions. Together, they have built and operated more than 800 battery swap stations.

As of Aug. 13, NIO had built 9,201 charging and battery swap facilities across China, including 4,018 battery swap stations, 5,182 charging stations and 29,883 charger.

Cumulatively, NIO has completed more than 120 million battery swap services, with total charging and swap service volume exceeding 200 million sessions.

Meanwhile, NIO’s fifth-generation battery swap station has officially entered operation.

Under NIO’s plan, newly added swap stations nationwide will mainly adopt the fifth-generation system from September. Monthly additions are expected to exceed 100 units in the early stage, rising to around 150 units by year-end. NIO expects to add more than 400 new swap stations in 2026.
