China’s Auto Market Offers Plenty to Watch in First Half of 2025.

Hot new models like the Xiaomi YU7, Li Auto i8, ONVO L90, NIO Firefly, AITO M8, and Denza N9 have taken turns dominating the stage. Their performances lived up to expectations, offering Chinese consumers refreshingly innovative product experiences.

The excitement continues into the third and fourth quarters, with highlights expected to rival or even surpass the first half.

ChinaEV Home has compiled a list of the ten most anticipated Chinese new energy vehicles (NEVs) set to debut in the second half of the year. These models have a high probability of launching or at least revealing pricing information within 2024.

Let’s take a first look.

01. XPeng X9 EREV Version

The extended-range version (EREV) of the XPeng X9 has recently been officially filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng revealed on social media that the vehicle will be launched in Q4 2025.

MIIT data shows the X9 REV measures 5,316 × 1,988 × 1,785 mm, with a 3160mm wheelbase. Compared to the battery version (BEV), the REV version is 23mm longer; it’s currently unknown if this impacts interior space.

He Xiaopeng confirmed the vehicle will be the first to feature XPeng’s new “Kunpeng Super Electric Architecture” range-extender technology, utilizing a “large battery + small fuel tank” configuration. Initial reports suggested the pure electric range (EV range) under this system could exceed 430km, with a total range of 1400km.

However, on August 8th, a poster shared by He Xiaopeng on Weibo showed the X9 undergoing extreme testing, with the mysterious numbers “450” and “1500” visible on the car body. Netizens speculated this hints at an updated EV range of 450km and total range of 1500km.

He Xiaopeng hasn’t publicly responded to these guesses, leaving the suspense until the pre-launch reveal.

Other highlights of the XPeng X9 EREV include charging performance comparable to pure electric vehicles, supporting up to 5C-rate charging speeds.

Thus, the X9 EREV’s product characteristics are clear: compared to the pure electric version, it offers substantial pure electric range while mitigating range anxiety through its range extender. Simultaneously, it inherits the premium features and configurations of the pure electric version, ensuring the comfort and driving dynamics expected of a high-end MPV.

Following the market convention that extended-range versions are priced below their all-electric counterparts, and given that the current XPeng X9 BEV starts at RMB 359,800 ($47,000), the X9 EREV is expected to have a starting price of around RMB 320,000–330,000 ($41,800–43,100).

02. Zeekr 9X

Zeekr, and indeed the entire Geely Group’s highest-positioned model this year, the Zeekr 9X, has been announced to start pre-sales at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025, with market launch and deliveries expected within the year.

For powertrain performance, the vehicle is equipped with a 2.0T engine boasting a peak power of 205kW and a thermal efficiency of 46%. The three-motor hybrid system delivers a peak power of 1030kW (1400 horsepower), enabling a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.1 seconds.

For refueling/recharging, the official announcement states that, relying on the 900V architecture and 6C battery, the car can charge from 20% to 80% in just 9 minutes. It also packs a 70kWh battery, providing a pure electric range of 380km.

In chassis technology, the 9X features “Dual-Valve CCD Dampers + Closed Dual-Chamber Air Suspension,” complemented by 48V active anti-roll bar technology. During the official launch presentation, the 9X demonstrated handling performance rivaling million-RMB luxury SUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Based on current information, the 9X’s key features are evident: powered by Geely’s latest flagship platform, it delivers outstanding electrical performance and range, while its powertrain and chassis hardware aim squarely at the “million-RMB luxury class.”

Judging by these luxury features, the 9X is positioned higher-end compared with the Lynk & Co 900, which is priced around RMB 300,000 ($39,000). The 9X is expected to carry a price tag in the RMB 400,000–500,000 ($52,000–65,000) range.

03. IM LS9

Dubbed by netizens as the “Range Rover of Lujiazui” (Shanghai’s financial district), the IM LS9 is set for release in Q4 2025.

IM LS9

The LS9 measures 5279 × 2000 × 1806mm with a 3160mm wheelbase, also positioning it as a large 6-seat SUV.

The car bills itself as “an EV with its own supercharger.” Its biggest highlight is the “Stellar” super extended-range system.

A presenter stands on stage in front of a large screen displaying Chinese text that emphasizes a range of over 1500 kilometers for electric vehicles, highlighting a premium electric vehicle experience.

The vehicle is expected to feature a CATL 66kWh “Super Xiaoyao MAX” battery pack, providing an EV range of 450km and a total range exceeding 1500km. It supports an 800V ultra-fast charging platform with 4C charging capability, enabling a 310km range top-up in 15 minutes.

IM has yet to release detailed information on comfort features and other technological configurations.

Judging by the name and full-size dimensions, the LS9 targets the high-end luxury market, competing against models like the AITO M9 and Li Xiang L9.

Currently, the L9 starts at RMB 409,800 ($53,000) and the M9 at RMB 469,800 ($61,000), so the LS9 is expected to be priced in the RMB 400,000–450,000 ($52,000–58,000) range.

04. Li Auto i6

Back in June 2025, William Li previewed the brand’s second pure electric SUV, the i6, slated for an official debut in September.

Li Auto i6

MIIT information reveals the i6 dimensions as 4950 × 1935 × 1655mm with a 3000mm wheelbase and a 5-seat layout.

Positionally, the Li Auto i6 can be seen as the BEV version of the Li Auto L6. Its design language, much like the i8, follows the low-drag styling philosophy inherited from the MEGA MPV.

Li Auto i6

Core electric powertrain details, per MIIT, show the i6 equipped with an 87kWh 5C lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a maximum range of 720km. The single-motor variant produces 250kW, while the dual-motor variant has front/rear motors rated at 150kW and 250kW, respectively.

Regarding features, the i6 likely won’t deviate significantly from the L6. Given that the L6 lacks air suspension and a ceiling-mounted rear-seat entertainment screen, the i6 is also expected to omit these features.

Finally, whether Li Auto’s i8 configuration strategy (possibly meaning tiered options or specific feature sets) extends to the i6 remains a key point of interest. As for pricing, the i6 will likely follow the i8’s “ICE/EV price parity” principle, positioning it close to the L6’s price point.

05. ONVO L80

If you’re interested in the newly launched L90 but don’t require a six-seat configuration, there’s an alternative: the L80, which is expected to debut in Q4.

A sleek, modern electric SUV with a streamlined design and a silver-gray finish, featuring distinctive headlights and a spacious interior visible through the windows.
ONVO L80

To some extent, the L80 can be considered the “5-seat version of the L90.” They share identical length, width, height, and wheelbase (5145 × 1998 × 1786mm, 3110mm wheelbase), and the same exterior design—only the number of seats differs.

The already spacious interior of the 5.1-meter-long L90 suggests that removing a row of seats will further liberate the second-row legroom and cargo space in the L80.

Based on the L90’s space utilization, some netizens speculate that with one row removed, the L80’s trunk volume could reach 1000L, expanding to 2000L when the second row is folded down.

For comparison, consider the slightly smaller BYD Tang L EV (5040 × 1996 × 1760mm, 2950mm wheelbase): its standard trunk is 310L, increasing to 960L with the third row folded, and up to 1960L with both rear rows folded.

Recently, ONVO announced that, considering users with “daily city commutes and home charging,” a 60kWh battery option has been added as a BaaS (Battery as a Service) rental choice for the L90. Could this imply that the L80 will offer a direct 60kWh battery purchase option?

ONVO L80

Lastly, pricing: given its positioning, the L80 will likely be priced slightly lower than the L90.

Currently, the ONVO L60 BaaS starts at 149,900 RMB ($19,400), and the L90 at 179,800 RMB ($23,300). It’s possible that the ONVO L80’s BaaS starting price could be around RMB 160,000 ($20,700), making it worth keeping an eye on.

06. Third-Generation NIO ES8

NIO Group has another truly heavyweight new model slated for H2: the third-generation ES8. CEO William Li has confirmed the new generation ES8 will be unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show and launched at NIO Day in September.

A sleek electric SUV in dark blue, featuring an aerodynamic design, modern front grille, and large alloy wheels, showcased against a minimalist background.
Third-Generation NIO ES8

MIIT information shows the new ES8 dimensions as 5280 × 2010 × 1800mm with a 3130mm wheelbase. It’s equipped with a 900V high-voltage architecture and features a CATL 102kWh ternary lithium (NCM) battery, delivering a range of 635km.

The configuration of the new ES8 has been a hot topic for speculation, with ChinaEV Home publishing predictive articles before.

For instance, the ES8’s intelligent system might be the “full-blooded” Cypress. Its chips are expected to match the ET9, possibly featuring the dual Shenji NX9031 chips.

For interior features, the ES8 might adopt the same setup as the ET9: a distal screen, central infotainment screen, HUD, rear entertainment screen(s), and 6-seat configuration with two rows of seats. The “Jiuxiao Tianqin” premium sound system is likely an optional extra. Similar to the L90, it will have a frunk, though its design differs externally.

Analyzing online spy shots, some auto bloggers note that during low-speed turns, while the front wheels steer, the rear wheels maintain alignment with the body, suggesting the ES8 lacks rear-wheel steering.

Third-Generation NIO ES8

The extent to which the ET9’s technologies will trickle down to the ES8 is a major point of interest for this model. Additionally, NIO President Qin Lihong mentioned that the true flagship SUV, the ES9, will arrive next year, meaning the ES8’s specs might see some compromises.

Price-wise, based on a screenshot circulating of NIO’s Alan Zeng (Yangbo) in a WeChat group, the new ES8 is positioned at 500,000 RMB ($64,700). Currently, the outgoing ES8 starts at 428,000 RMB ($55,400) under the BaaS scheme.

07. Shangjie H5

Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) has officially confirmed that the new H5 model from its “Fifth Realm” brand Shangjie will debut in September.

The vehicle has already appeared on MIIT’s certification list, and official renderings have been released.

Dimensions from certification data: 4780 × 1910 × 1657mm, 2850mm wheelbase—a standard midsize SUV profile.

The H5 offers both EREV and BEV variants. The EREV version pairs a 32.6kWh battery with an engine for 230km EV range and over 1300km total range. The BEV version offers 655km range.

Most notably, Huawei’s Richard Yu stated on Weibo that the H5 will be equipped with the “full-strength” Huawei ADS 4.0 advanced driver assistance system.

However, MIIT filing information indicates the lidar is an optional extra, implying that lower trim levels might only feature the ADS SE (Standard Edition) ADAS system.

The Shangjie H5 is price-anchored in the 150,000–200,000 RMB ($19,400–25,900) segment. Consequently, its competitive edge within this segment relies heavily on its respectable range performance coupled with the HUAWEI Advanced Driving System (ADS).

08. All-New Voyah Dreamer

As the sales pillar of the Voyah brand and a segment leader in the new energy MPV market, the Voyah Dreamer is set to receive a significant update in September 2025.

According to the SKU configurations:

  • The rear-wheel-drive (single motor) version delivers 210kW of power.
  • The dual-motor AWD version is further divided into Standard and High Performance variants:
    • Standard AWD: Front motor 210kW, rear motor 160kW.
    • High Performance AWD: Front motor 150kW, rear motor 230kW.

Beyond the power upgrades, the battery capacity of the new Dreamer PHEV has also increased:

  • FWD version: Equipped with a 43.2kWh battery, offering a 213km pure-electric range (CLTC).
  • Low-power AWD version: Also features a 43.2kWh battery, with a 185km pure-electric range.
  • High-power AWD version: Comes with a 62.5kWh or 63kWh NMC (ternary lithium) battery, achieving over 300km of pure-electric range.

For the BEV version, the front and rear motor outputs are 175kW and 230kW respectively—an increase of 15kW and 70kW compared to the current model. It retains the 108.7kWh battery but improves the range to 700km (up by 50km from the outgoing version).

Beyond the base specifications, whether the underlying electrical architecture of the new Dreamer receives an upgrade is another key point of interest.

The recently launched Voyah Zhiyin features full 5C ultra-fast charging and an 800V platform as standard. In contrast, the current Dreamer, both PHEV and BEV versions, still utilize a 400V platform.

It’s reasonable to expect, or at least hope, that the facelifted Dreamer adopts these advancements, particularly implementing an 800V platform on the BEV version at a minimum.

Regarding pricing, the current Dreamer PHEV ranges from 329,900 to 429,900 RMB ($42,600–55,500), while the BEV version spans 349,900 to 449,900 RMB ($45,200–58,200). Considering the strategy of competitors like the XPeng X9 offering “more features without raising price,” the new Dreamer’s pricing is expected to remain largely consistent with the current model.

09. Geely Galaxy M9

Geely Galaxy brand’s highest-positioned product, the Galaxy M9, is in the final stages of testing. Geely Auto Group CEO Gan Jiayue has indicated the vehicle will launch in early Q3 2025.

A dark-colored mid-to-large SUV, the Geely Galaxy M9, is displayed in a modern studio setting with a minimalist background. The vehicle features a sleek design with distinctive front lighting and a stylish alloy wheel. The name 'Galaxy M9' is prominently featured on the wall beside the car.
Geely Galaxy M9

Positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, the Galaxy M9 measures 5205 × 1999 × 1800mm with a 3030mm wheelbase.

Current information confirms the Galaxy M9 will be equipped with the Geely Raytheon Intelligent Hybrid system. Its BEV range is offered in three tiers: 85km, 170km, and 185km. Total range exceeds 1500km, with fuel consumption as low as 4.8L/100km when the battery is depleted (HEV mode).

Furthermore, some Geely sales staff disclosed on social platforms that the M9 will feature an AI Digital Chassis + Dual-Chamber Closed Air Suspension, tuned by the Lotus engineering team. The front passenger seat can be fully folded forward to liberate second-row space. The third-row seats offer a wide range of recline adjustments.

Regarding ADAS capabilities, following Geely’s internal consolidation of its intelligent driving system, the Galaxy M9 is highly likely to feature the “Qianli Haohan H7” advanced driving system, supporting end-to-end, full-scenario Highway Pilot functions.

Details on other comfort amenities and innovative technologies await the official launch announcement.

The most anticipated aspect is pricing. Leaked internal Geely images suggest the M9 targets the 250,000 RMB ($32,400) mainstream flagship segment. Its starting price is widely expected to be under 250,000 RMB, positioning it to compete directly with the BYD Tang L EV.

10. BYD Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition

The U8L, positioned as a longer, more luxurious, and urban-focused derivative of the Yangwang U8, is scheduled for launch in Q3 2025. Its pre-sale price has been announced: 1.3 million RMB ($168,000).

BYD Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition

Official dimensions: 5400 × 2049 × 1921mm, wheelbase 3250mm.

The U8L’s core technologies largely mirror the U8, still utilizing the e⁴ platform, ” ‌DiSus-P” intelligent body control system, and supporting the “DiPilot 600” advanced driver assistance system.

The most significant changes focus on the interior layout. Compared to the U8’s “off-road 5-seater” configuration, the U8L upgrades to a “luxury executive 6-seater”.

Front view of the Yangwang U8L luxury SUV with a prominent grille and LED lighting, showcased in an indoor setting with a person in the background.
BYD Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition

The length increase of 81mm and wheelbase extension of 200mm translate to significantly more spacious interior room. The 2+2+2 six-seat arrangement provides enhanced comfort for second- and third-row occupants, aligning with its luxury chauffeur vehicle positioning.

Other upgrades emphasize luxury refinement, including features like the “Full-Scenario Intelligent Light-Controlled Privacy Windows”.

Powertrain: As currently listed, the U8L uses a plug-in hybrid system combining a 2.0T engine with four electric motors, delivering a combined peak power of 880kW (approx. 1180hp) and achieving 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds.

Range: Its 49.05kWh BYD Blade Battery provides a pure electric range of 180km and a total (hybrid) range of 1160km.

Overall, the Yangwang U8L positions itself closer to a “Range Rover of luxury,” specifically tailored for premium urban executive demands within the full-size SUV segment.

Leveraging its core technologies like e⁴ platform and ” ‌DiSus-P”, the U8L has a strong opportunity to become a “new favorite” among ultra-high-net-worth consumers in the million-RMB+ (above $168,000) market.
